• Proto Finish: In Greenwich And Stamford, A Business Proves Its Mettle

... My brother-in-law Randy Plimpton and I found Greenwich Metal Finishing in Stamford, Connecticut, and the experts there agreed to make some prototypes of what I had sketched ... With minor adjustments, the prototypes turned out to be excellent and workable, and the order was completed in a short time.

The experts at Greenwich Metal Finishing, in Stamford, connecticut, created light fixtures for my property in Bedford. The components were made individually, custom-painted, and pieced together by hand.

A CLEAN LOOK This bathroom in my daughter's cottage features a vintage sink, subway-tile walls, and two "Martha-designed" goosenecked sconces (left), placed high to cast a flattering light. I love visiting artisanal shops such as Greenwich Metal Finishing, in Stamford, Connecticut (right); pieces of works in progress are laid out for approval.

THE MAKING OF A LAMP The orginal floor lamp has a nickel finish (far left); the new versions were fashioned at Greenwich Metal Finishing out of brass, with an antique statuary bronze finish. Chuck Iasillo works the milling maching (top), which can shape metal into any form. Silver braising, or fusing pieces with molten sterling silver (here done by Vincent Stewart, center), is one technique used in making this lamp. Owner Anthony Cassano (above) is very devoted to his craft, and no job fazes him if it has to do with metal. He is deeply involved with all of the projects in this small but productive shop.
